Our Story

Performance Display & Millwork was founded by one seasoned industry veteran in 1994. From the start, the focus was on custom display solutions — and as attention from retailers and manufacturers grew, so did the company.

That growth amplified in 2002 when Melissa Lewis bought Performance Display, and began to position the company to win new clients and acquire new capabilities like never before.

Huston Manufacturing, a premier wood-panel processor, was acquired in 2006. Since then, the company has absorbed additional manufacturers, expanding its diverse capabilities even further in woodworking, large format printing and other processes.

To maximize efficiencies, operations were combined and moved to a new 40,000 square-foot corporate facility in 2008. Not only was the building designed for future expansion in mind, it was also designed as the ideal place to serve clients – where creativity turns to reality. We are proud to share and be a part of the continued success our partners have enjoyed, which has been the key to our long term growth.

Our new corporate headquarters is a reflection of the spirit of teamwork within. This facility has expanded our ability to offer quality jobs, employee training and true business stewardship, which not only benefit our clients but also contribute to economic growth.

Whether we’re teaching local teens job interview skills, staying involved with our local business community or hosting over 1000 attendees at the annual Business Expo, we use our facility to give back to the communities that have given us so much. For these efforts our company was proud to be awarded the 2014 Grimes Chamber Business of the Year.

As one of the first businesses in a new business park, we have also shown the neighborhood we care with an appealing corporate campus that includes a stocked fishing pond surrounded by natural Iowa prairie. It’s important to us to be good neighbors and citizens, and we’re resolved to continue giving — because we value people and relationships above everything else.

We use sustainable materials whenever possible, and all production process are designed to reduce waste. In addition, we collaborate with other local companies to recycle corrugate, and we have an in-house recycling program.

Our partnership with the DNR to find users of manufacturing byproducts and our work with The Humane Society are further evidence of our far-reaching commitment to environmentally responsible practices.

A natural prairie and wetland are cared for as part of the corporate campus as well. Simply put, Performance Display & Millwork’s products may come in a variety of colors, but you can find “green” in every one.
